About South West Boxing Club

South West Boxing Club was built to honour the neighbourhood we call home.

The industrial grain silos along the Lachine Canal in Montreal's South West

Long before factories, railways and boxing gyms lined these streets, the lands along the St. Lawrence River were travelled and cared for by Indigenous peoples. The Southwest has always been a place of movement, gathering, resilience and community where people came together through shared purpose.

As Montreal grew, Point St. Charles became one of Canada's great working class neighbourhoods. Irish immigrants fleeing the Great Famine helped shape the community, many finding work building the Lachine Canal, the railways and the industries that transformed the Southwest. They were joined by generations of newcomers and local families whose hard work, resilience and determination became part of the neighbourhood's identity.

Those same qualities have always defined the sport of boxing.

South West Boxing Club exists at the intersection of those stories.

Our vision was never simply to open another gym. We wanted to create a space that feels connected to the neighbourhood, where the history, character and resilience of the Southwest live on through the people who train here every day.

Whether you're stepping into a boxing gym for the first time, working toward a healthier lifestyle or preparing to compete, everyone walks through the same doors. Respect is earned through effort, not experience. We believe the strongest communities are built when beginners train alongside champions, pushing one another to improve.

Respect is earned through effort, not experience.

Our coaching philosophy reflects that belief. We emphasize technical excellence, discipline, accountability and continuous growth. Every member is challenged to become stronger, not only as an athlete but as a person.

South West Boxing Club was founded by active competitors and coaches who have dedicated their lives to the sport. Together with local partners who share a deep passion for boxing and for this community, we've created a club that respects the traditions of boxing while helping shape its future.

This gym is our contribution to the Southwest.

A place where hard work is celebrated, character is built and the next generation of the community can find purpose, confidence and belonging, one round at a time.
